The Altair 8800 - inspired a generation

The Smithsonian Museum describes the as the machine that “inaugurated the personal computer age.”

After appearing on the cover of *Popular Electronics* in January 1975, demand exploded.
Ed Roberts had hoped to sell about 200 units, within months MITS had a backlog of 4,000 orders.

The success didn't just start the personal-computer revolution,
it helped spawn computer clubs, stores, magazines and an ecosystem of add-on hardware. And inspired a generation:

Flip some switches and relive the 1975 thrill.
If you grew up on TikTok, keep flipping that "single step" switch and feel the wonder your grandfather felt
when a blinking LED was more exciting than a million likes.
